The GAHPERD Journal is a peer-reviewed professional journal intended to meet the needs of health, physical education, recreation, and dance professionals in the state of Georgia. It is also intended to be a forum for the discussion of new ideas and pertinent issues facing the profession. Before submitting a manuscript to The Journal , please be mindful of the following:
- Manuscripts submitted to The GAHPERD Journal must not be submitted to other publications simultaneously
- Manuscripts with practical implications for educators at all levels are given priority.
- Acceptance is based on originality of material, significance to the profession, validity, and adherence to the prescribed submission requirements.
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts should be double-spaced, including references and quotations, on 8 1/2" X 11" white paper. Manuscripts should be word processed whenever possible in accordance with the following guidelines:
- Prepare manuscript in Word or WordPerfect. Use a 3.5-inch disk. Label the disk with the author's name and manuscript title.
- Save manuscript in the native word processing format (e.g., Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, etc.) and as a text file (ASCII).
- Number the pages and outlines throughout.
- Save tables, photographs and figures as separate documents.
Submit the original manuscript, three copies, and your computer disk. Only the original manuscript should have the title page. Copies of the manuscript should be good quality, as these are sent to the reviewers. Articles should be from 8 to 15 pages, although longer manuscripts will be considered.
Title page . Include on the title page of the original manuscript the title of the manuscript, full name(s) of the author(s), academic degrees, positions, and institutional affiliations.
List the corresponding author's address, telephone number, and electronic mail address. Do not list authors' names on the three manuscript copies which are sent to reviewers.
Text. Simple, straightforward writing- clear, concise, and logical-is best. Focus the manuscript, use examples, capture the readers' interest, and stimulate their thinking. Keep paragraphs short. We encourage you to have colleagues review the manuscript prior to submission.
References . Check all references. Authors are responsible for accuracy. For reference style, follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th ed.).
Illustrations . Submit graphs, charts, tables, and drawings on separate sheets. When possible send camera-ready copies. Clearly label and title all illustrations according to APA guidelines.
Photographs . We encourage you to submit photographs with your manuscripts. They should be clear, sharp, well-composed black and white or color photographs to illustrate points within you article. You may also submit photographs in .jpg or .gif format on your disk.

Manuscripts are acknowledged by letter or email when received.
The Review Process
The editor reviews all manuscripts for appropriateness of topic and conformance to Journal guidelines. If appropriate, the editor sends the manuscript to the appropriate column editor and/or reviewers. At present, we are allowing six weeks for the review process.
Publication
Manuscripts are published in the earliest issue possible. Authors receive three complimentary copies.
Copyright. Accepted manuscripts become the property of the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Upon request, authors receive permission to reprint their own articles.
The GAHPERD Journal is listed in the Physical Education Index .
