About GAHPERD

The Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Inc. is affiliated with the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and is in the Southern District of AAHPERD.

Mission Statement

GAHPERD, Inc. is a non-profit organization for professionals and students in related fields of health, physical education, recreation and dance. GAHPERD, Inc. is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Georgians by supporting and promoting effective educational practices, quality curriculum, instruction and assessment in the areas of health, physical education, recreation, dance and related fields.

Vision Statement

GAHPERD, Inc. envisions a society in which an active, healthy lifestyle is valued and practiced by all Georgians. GAHPERD, Inc. takes a leadership role in promoting the professions it represents by broadening public perceptions and values, through dynamic services, creative products, innovative programs and on-going research. As a leader in the state, GAHPERD, Inc. seeks to unite with professional and community organizations to achieve the vision of a healthy Georgia.

The business of GAHPERD, Inc. is conducted by the Executive Board which consists of thirty-two elected (voting) and twenty-two appointed (non-voting) positions and meets four times during the year (see Organizational Chart). The State of Georgia is divided into seven geographical districts and each has a representative that is a member of the Executive Board (see GAHPERD Districts).

GAHPERD, Inc. sponsors numerous professional development opportunities throughout the year. For example, The Robert W. Moore Summer Institute is generally held early summer, District workshops are held in the spring and the annual State Convention is generally held in the fall. The Summer Institute and the annual Convention offer PLU’s.

GAHPERD, Inc. is a member of several coalitions that are addressing the critical issues of daily physical education for K-12, nutrition education, and school wellness policies to combat the overweight and obesity epidemic in children.
